QuestionAs the Independent candidate for South West Devon, will you put dementia at the top of your agenda this election? Improving dementia care, both locally and nationally, is an issue that is very important to me.

Please will you commit to transforming dementia care for everyone in our area by agreeing to talk to Dementia UK if you are elected? Show your support here: https://www.dementiauk.org/get-involved/campaigns/put-dementia-on-your-agenda

I was shocked to read that dementia is the leading cause of death in the UK. And did you know that during your first year as an MP, if you are elected, the number of people living with dementia in the UK is expected to exceed one million?

Right now, people affected by dementia face so many barriers to getting support, and for many, there is no support at all. This can cause people to feel exhausted, stressed and isolated. We desperately need dementia care to be improved.

If you are elected as my MP, you will have the power to help improve support for people diagnosed with dementia so that they can live the best life possible for as long as possible.

Dementia UK, the specialist dementia nursing charity, is calling for the next Government to transform dementia care in the UK so that everyone affected can access the specialist, compassionate support they need, when they need it. You can read about these recommendations in Dementia UK’s manifesto summary here: https://www.dementiauk.org/wp-content/uploads/dementia-uk-manifesto-summary-put-dementia-on-the-agenda.pdf

As my Independent candidate, please will you put dementia on your agenda by committing to meeting with Dementia UK if you are elected as a new MP? Sign the pledge here: https://www.dementiauk.org/get-involved/campaigns/put-dementia-on-your-agenda/

Answer100% want to talk to dementia care UK;
Pledge signed, with the comments: Having witness the devastation which dementia causes, and in my particular observations it was more devastating to the carers who were caring for the person who was not there any-more; I know we all need to be more aware, understanding, and supportive of both sides of the dementia impairment.

I hope to get elected, and trust whoever you turnout to vote for, that you will consider all of the candidates on their merits.

Due to time restraints some of these answers are shorter than I wanted, but I will update - so visit me again soon.

I hope you find my answer honest, and you will perhaps find out more about me and consider voting for the only Independent standing in South West Devon. I believe a Candidate should be contactable by any means a constituent chooses. (No Carrier pigeons please!), An issue which we have now is you can not tell where a candidate lives - even if they regualy use the word "Local". You will see my Name and Address is on everything I write, even the Ballot paper, so you can check I actually live in the constituency. You can personally put a letter through my letterbox. The only other address printed on the ballot paper actually lives in a neighbouring constituency. Nice chap, no issues there - But I feel strongly a candidate should live in the constituency they represent, and not be parachuted in. Vote Local, where Local means same constituency
